Arrest made in teepee fire at Haskell University in Lawrence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 32-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Thursday in connection with the weekend arson of a ceremonial teepee at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence.

Ryan Dekayouma Simpson was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of arson and trespassing, according to a news release from the City of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.

The crime occurred early Saturday as fire crews were sent at 4:35 a.m. to the Haskell campus regarding a teepee fire.

The fire destroyed the teepee.
