KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An area nonprofit offered the opportunity for students and artists from Africa to experience Kansas City culture during the holidays.

ArtsTech, 1522 Holmes Street, hosted three children and three artists through its “Connecting Continents” program from Dec. 22 to Jan. 8.

Outreach specialist Taylor Brown said she thought the nonprofit would change the lives of its guest, but the visitors changed theirs.

"We've just kind of learned that we are different but we have more in common than we have differences,” Brown said, “and that we can really celebrate one another in our differences and learn from one another.”

The children, ages 6, 9 and 10, rode the street car, visited the River Market and ate at Gates Barbecue.

This is the first year children participated in the program. Last year, an artist visited Kansas City alone.

Arts Tech is raising money to further the program and take youth from Kansas City to Senegal. For more information, visit the ArtsTech website.
