KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Bates County Sheriff’s Office closed its doors Monday afternoon amid a possible "threat toward law enforcement," the agency said.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said a person had threatened “to shoot law enforcement in an ambush as they exited the office.”
The sheriff's office said a suspect was in custody around a half-hour later, shortly before 1:30 p.m.
The agency did not offer any more details on the threat or the arrest, and a spokesperson had no comment when reached by 41 Action News.
The sheriff’s office urged residents to stay away from the building at 6 W. Fort Scott St. in Butler.
The sheriff’s office and its administrative building will be closed until further notice.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
