KANSAS CITY, Mo. — While the game day forecast has improved for Sunday’s AFC Championship matchup at Arrowhead Stadium, it will still be frigid.

Stay up-to-date on the latest forecast here.

We gathered these tips from the Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department to help you stay warm (so you can stay loud) as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the New England Patriots.

Attire

Wear clothing that will keep you both warm and dry, including (but not limited to):

  • A hat
  • A scarf or knit face mask
  • Mittens (gloves are OK too, but mittens are generally warmer)
  • Waterproof coat and shoes
  • Layers of loose-fitting clothing

What to pack for the tailgate

Beer, yes — but also a winter survival kit!

Pack a tote in your trunk containing these items, just in case:

  • Blankets (you can bring one into the stadium if carried over your shoulder)
  • First aid kit
  • A can and waterproof matches to melt snow for water
  • Windshield scraper
  • Jumper cables
  • Road maps and a compass (if your phone dies, you’ll be lost without Siri!)
  • Tool kit
  • Sand or cat litter, which you can pour on snow or ice to get some traction
  • Collapsible shovel (don’t want to be digging your car out with an ice scraper)
  • Canned or dried foods and a can opener
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Brightly colored cloth

If you get stranded

The items you pack in your emergency kit can all prove useful if you get stranded.

The health department advises drivers who get stuck to tie the brightly colored cloth to an antenna for increased visibility. With the blankets, wrap yourself from head to toe.

For heat, run the motor and heater for around 10 minutes and hour with the window cracked. Check the exhaust pipe for snow to decrease the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Eating un-melted snow can lower your body temperature, hence the can and matches.

Movement is also key. The health department says moving your arms and legs will help improve circulation and keep you warmer.

Try not to fall asleep. Staying awake helps you avoid cold-related health problems.

Stay warm, Chiefs Kingdom!
