Bicyclist killed in collision with car identified

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A bicyclist was killed after being hit by a car in Independence, Missouri, on College Street at Emery Street early Sunday morning.

Investigators said that a male bicyclist, identified as 57-year-old Ricky Byrom of Lexington, Missouri, was traveling south on Emery Street around 2:45 a.m. when he failed to stop for a stop sign and rode into the path of a 2004 Jeep Cherokee traveling west on College Street.

Byrom was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
