KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Blue Springs Council delayed a vote on a proposed development Thursday night after residents turned in protest petitions.

The council was expected to vote on a plans to build about 180 homes near the Colonial Highlands neighborhood west of Adams Dairy Parkway and North of Southeast Major Road.

The city's staff will now review and verify the petitions were signed and notarized by at least 30 percent of the property owners in the adjacent 185 feet of the property's perimeter, according to a city spokesperson.

The vote on the Cambridge Park development was moved to the March 2 council meeting.

41 Action News previously reported that Colonial Highlands residents are not happy with plans to build those starter homes on a 60-acre piece of land.

One resident said her family liked how the neighborhood was like a bit of the county within the city.

Rausch Coleman, the developer, said the plan is to sell the new homes, but neighbors fear the homes will become rentals.

The developer increased the amount of green space on the property and it's now more than the city requires.

Susan Culpepper, the city councilperson who represents that area, said she wanted to hear testimony before making a decision.

She will have to wait two weeks.
