Body of man gone missing on Smithville Lake found in water

UPDATE: SATURDAY MARCH 19, 2018. 6:30A.M. -  The Missouri Highway Patrol says the body of missing boater Charles O. Roe was found by a Corps of Engineers searcher about 6:15 this morning.

The worker began searching for the body before the scheduled search began.

Roe's body was found floating in the water in an area near where the original search was conducted.

There are no initial causes of foul play.

An autopsy will be conducted Monday to determine a cause of death.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Officials are searching for a man who never returned from boating on Smithville Lake.

Officials say Charles O. Roe, 37, was last heard from Wednesday evening when he took a boat out on Smithville Lake. His boat was recovered still running behind Sailboat Cove but Roe has not been found.

Officials say they will continue to search using sonar equipment until it gets too dark and resume the search in the morning if he isn't found.
