KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities will suspend disconnect of utility services for non-payment until March 1, 2021 the company announced Wednesday.

The company made the decision as communities and customers continue to face financial hardships during the pandemic.

The moratorium applies to both residential and business customers.

“As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to spread throughout our community, we will once again enact a moratorium on all utility disconnects,” BPU general manager William Johnson said. “It is important for us to continue to support our customers who are continuing to struggle during this time.”

Customers are encouraged to continue making payments on their bills to avoid getting too behind.

People will continue receiving reminders, including collection notices and calls as these notifications are important to remind customers of past-due balances and status of their accounts.
