Brandon Jones sentenced in 2018 fatal shooting at 18th and Vine

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Brandon Jones has been sentenced to life in prison in connection to the September 2018 fatal shooting of Gary Starr outside a club at East 18th Street and Vine Street.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced that Brandon D. Jones, 24, pleaded guilty to second degree murder and armed criminal action charges in the Sept. 8, 2018, shooting.

According to court records, police were called to 1700 E. 18th St. on a shooting, where they found Starr suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court records state that witnesses told detectives Starr was in front of a club when four males approached.

There had been an altercation between Starr and some of the men who approached hyim back in March of 2018.

Surveillance video showed Jones shoot Starr and run from the scene.

As part of the plea agreement, Jones was sentenced to life on the murder charge, and 30 years on the armed criminal action charge to run concurrently.
