KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Brookside restaurant has closed its doors after 15 years and temporarily relocated to Johnson County.

Avenues Bistro, which opened in 2006 at 338 W. 63rd St., recently closed. Chef and owner Joe Birch said the restaurant has moved to a location in Merriam, where it continues to do takeout and curbside orders.

Birch said the move to Merriam is temporary until "we find our new home."

"We are incredibly grateful to the entire Brookside community and the property owner for the many years of success and memories," Birch said in a statement. "While we are sad to say goodbye, we look forward to the next adventure ahead. We sincerely appreciate all of the support we have received over the years."

The restaurant serves regional European specialties inspired by Birch's travels and some of his own family recipes.
