KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A vote in Buckner for a sales tax increase to boost the town's general fund remained tied after a recount, the Jackson County Election Board said late Thursday.

After the recount, the vote remained deadlocked at 145 to 145. The tie means the proposal failed.

The sales tax would have helped raise $200,000 for police officer salaries and other needs at the department.

Buckner Mayor Darrel Box told 41 Action News on Thursday morning that he didn't expect the final vote to change.

City leaders could decide to put the issue on the ballot again in April.

The Board of Aldermen will meet on Thursday night. It was not immediately clear if the proposal would be discussed.
