KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Several businesses in Kansas City, Kansas, were evacuated Monday morning after a reported gas leak.

The KCK Fire Department said in a tweet that a gas leak in the 6200 block of State Avenue prompted the evacuation of residents and businesses in the area. Around 9:30 a.m., firefighters went door to door to evacuate people.

Shortly after 11 a.m., Atmos Energy crews located the source of the leak and shut off the valve. All businesses and roadways were reopened.

The leak was not hazardous to the surrounding area or people, the fire department said.

Atmos Energy continued to work on restoring service to the area.
