KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Cass County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office is crediting a thermal imaging camera for helping to locate a missing 93-year-old woman last weekend.

According to a press release issued Thursday, sheriffs deputies were in the area of the 17000 block of S. Reynolds Road near Strasburg, Missouri, Sunday night attempting to locate the missing woman.

With a thermal imaging camera mounted to an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), deputies were able to locate the woman less than a mile away from her house.

“This is an excellent use of current technology to help our citizens,” Sheriff Jeff Weber said in the release. “The ability to deploy a UAV in these types of situations saves time and resources, especially when time is of the essence. Every minute counts.”

The department posted a video of the rescue on its Facebook page.
