Child struck by car, injured in Overland Park, police say

UPDATE, 11 a.m. Feb. 19 | Overland Park police said Friday that the child who was struck by a vehicle the day before had improved to stable condition. The child suffered some broken bones but was conscious and talking, police said.

ORIGINAL, Feb. 18 | A child suffered critical injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday afternoon in Overland Park, police said.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. near West 164th and Flint streets. The child, who was headed northbound on Flint Street on an electric scooter, turned in front of a vehicle headed southbound. The car struck the child, who was hospitalized after the crash.

Overland Park police spokesman John Lacy said the child, a fifth grader at Timber Creek Elementary School, was alert and conscious but was still listed in critical condition.
