LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. — Prom is just around the corner, and students are looking to have a blast at the ball without breaking the bank.

Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Lee's Summit is hoping to provide some help.

For the 14th year, the church is hosting its Prom Boutique. Last year, the boutique gave away more than 2,400 dresses and served students from more than 130 area high schools as well as local nonprofit groups.

"I think we're always amazed at how wide-reaching it is and at the number of schools," said Christy Barber, Prom Boutique.

According to Yahoo Style's 2017 Prom Across America Survey, between hair and makeup, the dress, shoes, jewelry, and tickets, the average cost for prom is more than $600.

The Prom Boutique has over 3,800 dresses in every color and sizes 0-32.

"When you help a girl with a dress and you zip it up and you take her out to show what she looks like in the mirror, that look on her face, you just don't forget that," said Barber.

The Prom Boutique officially opens Wednesday. Hours are 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Donations may be dropped off at Woods Chapel Church at 4725 NE Lakewood Way.
