KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An employee of a City Market restaurant has resigned after telling Kansas City, Missouri, police officers they were not welcome at the restaurant while in uniform.

The employee worked at The Bite restaurant, 23 E. 3rd Street, within the City Market.

According to a spokesperson at the City Market, on June 7, the employee served uniformed police officers. After service, the employee told the officers that they were only welcome on future visits if they were wearing street clothes.

The spokesperson said the employee “took responsibility” for the comments and resigned from the restaurant.

“City Market has always been a place of diversity and inclusion, and all our shops and restaurants welcome everyone without exception,” the spokesperson said.
