KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A recount Thursday of ballots in Clay County appears to have changed the results of a Clay County election.
On Wednesday, the Clay County Election Board discovered an error in tabulating results in which several precincts did not have any votes counted.
The board scheduled a recount for Thursday.
On Friday, unofficial results from the recount provided by candidate Jon Carpenter showed he had received 6,163 votes to Cathy Rinehart’s 5,130 votes for western commissioner (Democratic), giving Carpenter the win.
The original results posted Tuesday night had Rinehart receiving 73% of the vote.
