KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The state will chip in $8 million for improvements along Colbern Road in Lee’s Summit as part of a joint program by the Missouri Departments of Transportation and Economic Development.

The Colbern Road project is one of 20 projects statewide selected to receive a total of $50 million.

The projects were announced by Gov. Mike Parson as part of a transportation cost-share program between state and local governments.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Missouri to turn infrastructure investments into workforce investments,” Parson said in a statement from his office. “The number of applications shows that these partnerships are not only of great interest but of great benefit to Missourians. It also highlights that many unfunded transportation needs remain in our state.”

The $8 million award is the second-largest among the projects.

It’s unclear what improvements the city plans with the funds, but Lee’s Summit proposed widening Colbern Road between Douglas Street and Missouri 350 in 2018.

Pettis County will receive $8,290,950 for a new U.S. 65 exchange just north of Sedalia, which will pave the way for an industrial park.

Parkville also received funding to make improvements to Missouri 9 and Sixth Street for vehicles and pedestrians.

The state will chip in $400,00 for the project.

The Missouri General Assembly already has appropriated the funds, but the projects remain subject to approval by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission at its January meeting.
