KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Freezing temperatures caused a fire sprinkler line break on Monday at the new Johnson County Courthouse in downtown Olathe, forcing the building to close for the day.

The break occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m., the county said in a news release.

Olathe firefighters and county staff limited the water flow, but parts of the first and second floors sustained water damage.

The building will be closed to the public while crews repair the damage. It’s expected to reopen on Tuesday.

The court is still operating virtually, and no case delays will occur because of the closure, according to the county.

The $193 million courthouse, located at 150 W. Santa Fe St., opened in early January.
