KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Construction set to begin this weekend at the Interstate 435 and Interstate 70 interchange on the Missouri side will impact traffic for two full construction seasons, the Missouri Department of Transportation said Tuesday.
Work on the interchange, which will include the closure of several ramps, will begin Sunday. The project will replace bridges and alter the configuration of the interchange to a partial turbine design.
In a news release, MoDOT said the project will allow safety improvements that include the removal of left exits and congestion relief.
At 6 a.m. Sunday, crews will close various single lanes along eastbound I-70 between Lister Avenue and I-435. The lane closures will last until 3 p.m.
On Monday, crews will close the eastbound I-70 exit ramp to Manchester Trafficway and the Manchester Trafficway on-ramp to westbound I-70 beginning at 9 a.m. Both ramps will be closed until December 2020.
Here’s a look at all the closures MoDOT has planned through Thursday, March 14:
Tuesday, March 12
—From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., crews will close various lanes along northbound and southbound Manchester Trafficway.
Wednesday, March 13
—Beginning at 8 p.m., crews will close the westbound I-70 loop ramp to southbound I-435 until December 2020. The detour will use westbound I-70 to Manchester to turn around on eastbound I-70 to southbound I-435. This closure has been delayed to Monday, March 18 at 8 p.m. due to inclement weather.
—Beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday, there will be two-lane closures along westbound I-70 from Stadium Drive to Manchester Trafficway.
Thursday, March 14
—From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., crews will be installing temporary barriers along westbound I-70. Crews may close various single lanes during this time.
—Also at 9 a.m., crews will close the right lane of westbound I-70 near I-435 until 3 p.m.
—From 7 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, crews will close single lanes along southbound I-435 at I-70.
—Beginning at 8 p.m., crews will close the eastbound I-70 loop ramp to northbound I-435 until December 2020. The signed detour will use U.S. 40 starting near 31st Street to northbound I-435.
Motorists must follow signed detours or find another route during the construction, MoDOT said in the news release.
