KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Construction set to begin next week will close Interstate 70 in both directions of the Downtown Loop in Kansas City, Missouri.

The closure will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 10, in the eastern portion of the loop from Admiral Boulevard to Paseo Boulevard. It also will affect all associated ramps.

The closure is expected to last through at least 6 a.m. on Monday, July 13. All work and scheduled closures are dependent on the weather.

The closure will impact the Lewis and Clark Bridge detour in place in Kansas.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, drivers using the bridge detour on southbound Interstate 35 should use the northern part of the downtown loop and travelers headed north on U.S. 71 should follow westbound Interstate 670.

Westbound motorists on westbound I-70 also will use westbound I-670.

The closure is part of a pavement project scheduled for completion in October 2020.
