KANSAS CITY, Mo. --
The brother of a man convicted of murder was charged Saturday for giving false testimony during the trial.
Derrick D. Marshall Jr., 23, faces a felony charge of perjury.
According to court documents, Marshall lied while on the stand during Jimmie Verge’s murder trial in March. Verge is Marshall’s brother.
Court documents say Marshall falsely testified that at the time of the Dec. 2015 murder, he was with Verge at another location. He also lied about not having any phone interactions with Verge after the murder.
The jury in that trial ultimately convicted Verge of eight felony counts, including two second-degree murder charges. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
Prosecutors requested a $100,000 bond for Marshall.
