KANSAS CITY, Mo. -  Quinton Lucas announced Saturday he's in the race to become Kansas City's next mayor.

Lucas joins a crowded field that includes current Kansas City council members Jermaine Reed, Alissia Canady, Scott Wagner, Scott Taylor and Jolie Justus.

Lucas was elected to the KCMO City Council's Third District at-large seat in 2015.

He has been out front on affordable housing in the booming downtown area and in examining tax incentives for developers.

Lucas grew up in Kansas City and lives in the third district.

"Kansas Citians will have a lot of options next year and that's a good thing, Lucas sent in a statement announcing his candidacy. "But I'll promise our city this - there is no one who will work harder than me to ensure we build a strong community in al Kansas City neighborhoods for our future.''
