The Crawford County Sheriff's Department asked residents of the Kansas City metro to keep an eye out for two escaped inmates who may be hiding in the area.
Steven Barnes, who had been held on a theft charge, and Shaun Simpson, who had been held on a kidnapping charge, escaped Saturday from the Girard Jail near Pittsburg, Kansas.
With assistance from other inmates, the pair broke clamps on the outdoor fences in the recreation area and fled.
At this time, the Crawford County Sheriff's Department is placing a heavy emphasis on patrolling the area near the jail, but encourages Kansas City residents to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
