KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Crews are making progress toward setting the foundation at the new Kansas City International airport terminal.

Production-pile work is under way at the airport. Piles are cylindrical pieces of material such as steel or concrete driven into the ground to support a structure.

Nearly 1,000 piles have been installed so far with more than 2,000 expected.

The goal of the pile work is to determine the depth, diameter and number of piles needed for the project.

Officials have previously said that the project is on budget and ahead of schedule.
