KANSAS CITY, Mo. — During the holiday season, every child deserves to have a special gift to open — one that can help bring them joy, no matter their circumstances.
That's the belief of Santa's elves at Crittenton Children's Center, who have been busy working up a Christmas miracle through the center's Adopt-an-Angel program.
"At this time of year, you see miracle after miracle after miracle," Crittenton Director of Community Development Wanda Taylor said.
For its Adopt-an-Angel program, Crittenton Children's Center is looking for people who are interested in donating to children who are in the center's residential units. Among the donations being accepted are board games, art supplies, book series, radios, and movies or DVDs rated PG only.
The center is also asking for donations for stocking stuffers and wrapping supplies (including tape, boxes, bags and tissue paper), as well as general donations for the holiday season.
For more than 100 years, Crittenton Children's Center has been a department of Saint Luke's Hospital, providing mental health care to children, teenagers and their families.
While the center often deals with trauma, Taylor hopes the work of employees, staff and volunteers will bring joy to what can be a difficult time for kids.
"Between our foster care program, our home-based services and our residential, we will provide Christmas for a little over 300 kids," Taylor said.
Children's gifts, stocking stuffers and wrapping supplies are being accepted until Dec. 17.
