KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A new mixed-use project could bring a restaurant, library and office space to downtown Olathe.

The five-story building would be located east of city hall on East Santa Fe Street, LANE4 announced Thursday.

The city partnered with the property group on the project, LANE4 said, to create a modern library space and “ignite the downtown area and create a community-focused place that can grow and transform with the evolution of the city.”

The project would have around 70,000 square feet of usable space including a signature restaurant, Class A office space with dramatic views and a rooftop patio, plus ample space for the Olathe Library.”

LANE4 said the Civic Center Park that is currently on the site will be included in the design.

There are many steps yet to be completed in the approval process, but the Olathe City Council on Tuesday approved a pre-development agreement, which allowed the project to move on to the planning and zoning process.

Olathe Mayor Michael Copeland said the project, “could mean new jobs, new opportunities and new energy” in Olathe’s historic core.

Olathe Library Director Emily Baker said the new development would work into the library’s master plan to bring “the same exceptional library experience downtown.”

The project is expected to go before the full council in early 2020, with the groundbreaking later in the year.
