UPDATE | Just after 3 p.m. Thursday the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received the all-clear after a team deemed a package near a law enforcement
building not suspicious.
The sheriff's office tweeted that the package was empty and they do not believe it was placed there maliciously.
Rhode Island Street was reopened to traffic.
PREVIOUS | Douglas County, Kansas, authorities are investigating a suspicious package near a law enforcement building, the sheriff’s office said.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office tweeted just before 1 p.m. they had found the package on the east side of the Law Enforcement Center parking lot.
Rhode Island Street between 11th and 12th streets closed while deputies investigated.
The sheriff’s office said it was not evacuating the area but asked people to stay away.
