Driver crashes into tree, dies fleeing KCK police

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A driver fleeing from Kansas City, Kansas, police officers during the early morning hours Aug. 10 died after crashing into a tree.

Patrol officers spotted a single four-door vehicle stopped in the middle of a driving lane around 3:19 a.m. on 27th Street near Parallel Parkway.

Officers pulled behind the vehicle to make contact, but the driver sped off a high rate of speed when officers approached the vehicle and continued accelerating northbound.

The vehicle went off the road and struck a tree near 27th Street and Hickam Drive and the single occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have yet to identify the driver.

The KCK Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit is investigating. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call 913-596-3000.
