KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man died in the hospital after a crash late Friday night in Kansas City, Missouri.

According to police, the driver was traveling north on Holmes Road at a high rate of speed around 11:30 p.m.

For unknown reasons, the car left the road after a curve near East 127th Street, where it struck two poles, a large tree and landed off the roadway.

The driver — identified Tuesday as 19-year-old Cesar Nolasco — was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital where he later died.

Nolasco is the 74th traffic fatality in KCMO so far in 2020 compared to 53 at the same time last year, a 39.6% increase.
