KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An uninvolved motorist died Wednesday following a crash caused by two people who were chasing each other following a shooting.

Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. to the 800 block of North Emery for a domestic disturbance call with shots fired, according to a news release.

Before officers arrived, the people involved in the shooting left the area, “chasing each other in two different vehicles,” the release stated.

While on westbound U.S. 24 Highway at Sterling Avenue, one driver from the disturbance call crossed the intersection, crashing into a southbound vehicle. The person in the southbound vehicle was killed.

Two additional vehicles also were involved, but injuries to the occupants were not life-threatening, police said.

Both people involved in the shooting were taken into custody.

The driver who was killed has not yet been identified, and the incident still is under investigation.
