UPDATE: Feb 15, 11:15a.m.: The Kansas Highway Patrol said Christopher Deason, 59, of Kansas City, Kansas, was killed when the 2015 Jeep Patriot he was driving struck the back of a 2017 Freightliner semi tractor.

The semi was driven by Artis Henry, 39 of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was not injured in the crash.

The driver of a passenger car was killed when the vehicle hit the back of a semi that was stopped and broken down in the middle lane of Interstate 70 west of Interstate 435.

Just after 5:30 a.m. Saturday, the Kansas Turnpike Authority responded to a crash in the middle lane of I-70 in Kansas City, Kansas.

Troopers said a semi was stopped in the roadway after being broken down.

The driver of a passenger car hit the back of the semi.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was reportedly not injured.

An investigation is still underway.
