OLATHE, Kan. — Johnson County has a full service District Attorney’s Office. They’ll even fetch your dry cleaning, but only in extreme circumstances.

When customers reached out to Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe’s office after Luxury Dry Cleaners of Johnson County abruptly closed without notice last month, the DA’s office tracked down customers’ items that had been left at the location.

"Our real goal in this case, like many of these shops that close up their doors, is getting the property back to the rightful owners," Howe said.

The Lenexa-based business, which also operated as Dry Cleaners of Johnson County, was evicted from its location in the 12900 block of West 87th Street and the items were moved to a different location.

The JoCo DA found and retrieved the customers’ items earlier this week, began the process of identifying the rightful owners and made contact with more than 50 individuals to arrange for returning the articles of clothing.

Howe’s office encourages any other customers who had been unable to retrieve clothing items to contact the DA office’s Consumer Hotline at 913-715-3003.

"If we feel like we've really accomplished our goal, which is making the customer's whole, then we may decide not to file any charges," Howe said. "That's something to be decided down the road."
