4 killed in deadly morning on Kansas City area roads

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Four people were killed in three separate crashes Wednesday morning in the Kansas City area.

The first crash happened at East 87th Street and Newton Avenue just before 2 a.m.

KCPD said the driver of a Pontiac was eastbound on East 87th when for unknown reasons it crossed double yellow lines and crashed into a Chevrolet Suburban head-on.

The driver of the Suburban was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Pontiac was also taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The deceased driver has been identified as 33-year-old Kristian Shaw.

Another crash happened at 56th Street and Indiana Avenue when a car hit a tree, killing the occupant.

That person was identified Friday morning as 21-year-old Daniel L. Carson Jr.

That crash happened just before 6:45 a.m., and the next happened a few minutes later.

A motorcycle crashed at 55th Street and Blue Parkway, killing one person. He was identified Thursday evening as 59-year-old Mark Gish from KCMO.

KCPD has not yet identified the others killed.

Additionally, the Leavenworth Police Department reported a fatal crash at Wilson Avenue and Marion Street that happened just before 1 a.m.

Courtney Shearer, 23, was killed when her 1996 Chevrolet Blazer went out of control and rolled several times, ejecting her.

Investigators are looking at speed, impairment and "occupancy protection."
