Deadly early morning shooting shuts down Kansas City highway

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A person is dead and roads were shut down this morning, as Kansas City police investigated a shooting on Interstate 49 north of Red Bridge Road.

It happened around 4 a.m. and is being investigated as a homicide.

Sgt. Jake Becchina said that when police arrived at the scene there was a man dead on the ground. He and two others had been in a white SUV that was at the scene.

It is not clear whether shots came from inside or outside of the car or how those two other people are involved. They are being questioned by police.

According to KC Scout traffic cameras, I-49 northbound before Interstate 435 northbound was closed due to the investigation. The Interstate 470 ramp to I-49 north was also closed.

It all reopened around 8:45 a.m.

Dozens of police cars were required in the area to shut down and control traffic at Three Trails Crossing.
