KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Evergy crews will work through the night and into Tuesday to restore power to customers across the area.

Storms brought high winds, hail and rain Monday morning and knocked out power to more than 30,000 Evergy customers, according to a company statement.

Workers have been able to get power back to more than half those customers, but thousands still remain without power in Belton and Grandview.

The numbers of customers without power at 8:40 p.m. Monday included 1,720 customers in Grandview, more than 1,400 in Belton and 779 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The company statement said crews are keeping six feet of social distance and the same crews work together each day to reduce the threat of spreading COVID-19.

Customers should not approach workers in the field, according to the company statement.

Power outages can be reported at www.evergy.com. Customers in Kansas and Missouri metro and Missouri west service areas can call 1-88-LIGHTKC (1-888-544-4852).

The company serves about 1.6 million customers in Kansas and Missouri after KCP&L and Westar Energy merged.
