KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A stolen U-Haul containing a family’s possessions was recovered late Thursday, two weeks after it was taken from the parking lot of a hotel, Kansas City, Missouri, police said.

Officers found both the U-Haul and the family’s vehicle, which had been hitched to the moving truck, in the woods near Bannister and Norfleet roads, a police spokesman said Friday afternoon. Police received an anonymous tip about the truck's location.

On April 5, Paul Holmes left the moving truck at a Days Inn on Hillcrest Road while he went back to Doniphan, Missouri, to move his family to Kansas City. The family later discovered the trailer, along with their vehicle, had been stolen.

Many items inside the U-Haul were found in the woods. The vehicle was taken apart in many pieces and several parts were missing, police said.

Paul Holmes and his wife, Sabrina, said they have seen an outpouring of support from the community since the theft.

Police were processing the scene to collect evidence about possible suspects. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Crimestoppers.
