Two killed in head-on crash on I-70 at 23rd street

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people in a reported stolen car in Independence were killed in a head-on crash on I-70 at 23rd street early Saturday morning.

Kansas City police say a Ford Fusion was reported stolen in a robbery in Independence.

Shortly before 5:00 a.m. the vehicle was spotted at 34th & Monroe and a chase began.

KCPD lost sight of the vehicle and stopped pursuing.

A short time later officers discovered the Ford westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-70 when it collided hea-on with a Chevrolet Trailblazer.

A passenger in the Ford, a 24 year-old Kansas City woman died at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, a 25 year-old Kansas City man, died a short time later at an area hospital.

The driver and lone occupant of the Chevrolet was last reported in serious condition.

Traffic on I-70 was shut down while officers worked the crash until shortly after 8:00 a.m.
