KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A federal judge was arrested Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to Johnson County court records.

U.S. District Judge Kathryn Vratil, 70, was charged with driving under the influence and improper driving on a laned road.

U.S. District Court Chief Judge Julie Robinson said the court was aware of the charges in a statement to 41 Action News.

“The District of Kansas is aware of the pending charge against one of our judges,” the statement read. “This court respects the jurisdiction of the Johnson County District Court, which is handling the case. This court will handle this as an internal personnel matter and have no further comment."

Vratil posted a $1,000 bond late Thursday and was released from jail, according to online records.
