KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Firefighters in Kansas City, Kansas said a fire destroyed a Captain D's restaurant early Tuesday morning.

Dispatch sent the fire department to the fast food seafood chain located at 7525 State Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. Firefighters spent nearly three hours putting out the fire.

A spokesperson from the department said no one was inside the restaurant when firefighters arrived and no one was hurt in the fire.

Investigators from the department will put together a report detailing possible causes of the fire. The spokesperson said investigators will determine how, or if, grease from the kitchen played a role in starting or fueling the fire.

Coincidentally, records from the Kansas Department of Agriculture showed a restaurant inspector conducted a routine visit at this restaurant Monday and found seven violations. As a result, the inspector ruled the restaurant out of compliance.

The violations included coleslaw left out of the refrigerator for more than four hours, food debris in the microwave and on other kitchen items marked as clean.

It is unknown if the violations are linked to the fire in any way.
