KANSAS CITY, Mo. — 103 Square, the strip mall that used to includes Coach’s Bar & Grill off 103rd Street near Holmes Road in south Kansas City, Missouri, caught fire Saturday afternoon.

A spokesman with the Kansas City Fire Department said the building was vacant and the fire may have been started by homeless squatters. Nobody was injured.

Flash flooding swamped the strip mall in July 2017 and chased away all of the businesses that used to occupy the property, which is adjacent to Indian Creek.

Coach’s, a well-known bar that had been at the location for 35 years and still operates an Overland Park location, planned to reopen initially, even after the co-owners had to be rescued from the rising water, but the property owners decided that the repeated flooding had become too costly.

Fire crews from Grandview also responded to the scene.
