KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Firefighters battled an early morning house fire on S. Benton Avenue.

Crews arrived to flames shooting above the roof of the home just after 3:30 a.m.

Shortly after arrival fire crews backed out of the home, poured heavy water, then entered the home again to search for anyone possibly inside.

Deputy Chief Jimmy Walker says the home was occupied, but the homeowner was not home at the time.

Investigators believe a space heater was the cause of the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 5:00 a.m.
