KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is in custody after a gun was recovered on Blue Springs School District property following the first day of school Wednesday.

Blue Springs High School Principal Tom Alderman said the Blue Springs Police Department received a report about a person with a weapon in the parking lot of the district aquatic center at school dismissal time.

Police, the Department of Public Safety and administrators responded, and the school resource officer and police recovered a handgun.

One person was arrested, but they were not a student in the district. It's not clear if they were an adult or a student from another district.

Additional security will be placed on the high school's campus while the investigation continues.
