KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Building robots and creating real world change.

That’s the focus for hundreds of students in Kansas City, Missouri, today.

FIRST LEGO League held its regional championship today at the Hy-Vee Arena. The event is a way for students to put their robotics skills to the test. Along the way, mentors are hoping to help them think about solutions to real-world problems, according to Christina Chandler, FIRST program delivery partner.

"What they're doing is they're really thinking about how our communities are evolving and how we transform our communities to cater to our evolving population,” Chandler said. “Then, in addition, how do we change our communities to be more inclusive?”

The winners of today’s competition will compete at the world championship event in April in Houston.
