KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man who served Platte County citizens for nearly three decades has died.
The Platte County Sheriff's Department announced Monday the recent death of former Sheriff Tom Thomas.
Thomas was the county's sheriff from 1969 until he retired in 1996.
He also served as a Kansas City, Missouri, police officer before becoming sheriff.
The sheriff's department's law enforcement center is named in Thomas' honor.
"The thoughts and prayers of the men and women of the Platte County Sheriff's Office are with the Thomas family,'' according to a statement from the sheriff's department.
