KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Max Falkenstien, the retired "Voice of the Jayhawks," passed away Monday at the age of 95.

Falkenstien was the voice of University of Kansas football and men's basketball games on broadcasts from 1946 to 2006.

“I, of course, knew of Max for many years as the iconic Voice of the Jayhawks. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to meet and talk with him this year. He was everything everyone had told me about him – engaging, funny – and he made me feel right at home," Kansas Athletics Director, Jeff Long said in a statement released by the university.

Falkenstien is survived by his wife of 70 years, Isobel, their two children, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
