KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Clear skies and temperatures in the lower 30s might sound pretty good for an early January night in the Kansas City area.

But those conditions in mid-October have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a freeze warning for the entire metro.

The warning runs from midnight to 9 a.m. Saturday.

Temperatures in the city could bottom out in the low to mid-30s, while temperatures in the outlying areas could drop to below freezing for several hours.

Residents with tender plants should cover them or bring them inside.

According to 41 Action News Meteorologist Jeff Penner, the cold snap will be short-lived, as highs are expected to rebound into the 70s by Monday.
