KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A married Grandview couple has been charged in the death of Erick McDonough, who detectives believe was intentionally run over April 13 by a truck.

Joshua D. Brooks, 38, faces a range of felony charges — first-degree murder, armed criminal action, tampering with physical evidence in a felony, and leaving the scene of an accident — the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office announced Saturday.

His wife, Cassie D. Brooks, 36, also has been charged with tampering with physical evidence in a felony.

Joshua has been locked up in the Johnson County, Missouri, Jail since May 12, according to jail records. He was booked at the time for two separate parole violations for a second-degree assault charge and an unlawful possession of a firearm charge.

According to a new release announcing the charges, McDonough — a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend — was hit by a vehicle near 2nd and 3rd streets in Grandview. He suffered extensive blunt force trauma.

Grandview police determined Joshua intentionally ran him over then left him in the grassy area where he was hit.

Detectives said Brookses had issues with McDonough and that their truck went missing after the deadly crash.

Grandview police found a part from the vehicle that killed McDonough at the scene. The Brooks' truck was later located in Holden, Missouri.

Detectives also reportedly heard the defendants talking while in custody and alleged that Joshua told Cassie, "I did it all on my own accord."

Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 bond for Joshua and a $10,000 bond for Cassie.

With his parole violation, jail records list Joshua with a $300,000 total bond.
