Grandview shooting leads to chase, crash in Overland Park

GRANDVIEW, Mo. — An early morning shooting outside a Grandview IHOP led to a police chase and crash around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in Overland Park, Kansas.

Police were dispatched on a call of shots fired near an IHOP in the 12100 block of South U.S. 71  around 2 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man who suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound in the parking lot.

Officers were given a suspect vehicle description, then observed the vehicle fleeing at a high rate of speed.

Officers chased the vehicle from U.S. 71 to westbound Interstate 435 all the way to Metcalf Avenue, where the vehicle exited and headed north.

Overland Park officers deployed stop sticks at 77th Street and Metcalf Avenue.

The vehicle continued to 67th Street and Metcalf before striking a retaining wall and flipping on its side.

A man and woman, neither of whom were wearing seat belts, were taken into custody at the scene of the crash.

The man, who complained of a head injury, was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

An investigation is underway and no charges have been filed.
