OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — One hairstylist is taking his talents on the road to help raise awareness across the nation for a good cause.

Patrick Lomantini, founder of BarkAID, is traveling to 50 states, doing at least 50 haircuts to raise money for homeless pets.

On Wednesday, Lomantini stopped at the Paul Mitchell School in Overland Park, offering haircuts for a suggested $25 donation. Proceeds will then be given to two local shelters: Great Plains SPCA and Unleashed Pet Rescue.

“I’ve always wanted to be about something,” Lomantini said. “I want it to mean something. So I found a way to marry my passion for hair with animal rescue and animal welfare so it's been a great marriage.”

This is Lomantini’s 30th stop in his tour.

“There's not another job out there where you can have that personal interaction with someone in a very short period of time,” he said. “There's something about that chair that people just trust and make them feel good and they want to do good, so they donate to such a great cause.”

Great Plains SPCA President Nate Meador said this is a great opportunity not only for their local shelter but shelters across the country.

“We love it when the community comes together, especially on a national level with everything that's going on with Houston," Meador said. "We love to support, not only our local community, but how can we get national organizations involved and BarkAID happens to be a national organization."

Haircuts will be going on until 7 p.m. Wednesday. Lomantini’s next stop will be in Columbia, Missouri. His last stop will be in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 19th.

Great Plains SPCAwill be hosting a Labor of Love adoption event this weekend, to help clear its shelter so if needed, they can bring in some homeless pets from Texas to Kansas City. This is to help open up shelters in Texas to pets that could be reclaimed by their owners.
